Hotspot designer menu

The Hotspot Designer menu is standardized from left to right with File, Edit, Insert, Tools, Zoom and Help and has a number of submenus which are discussed below.

File

Open Image... This will allow you to browse your files for a new image (foreground image). If you have not already opened an Image using the Image property in the Properties window, then this is an alternative way of doing it.

Open BackImage... This will allow you to browse your files for a new image (background image). If you have not already opened an Image using the BackImage property in the Properties window, then this is an alternative way of doing it.

Save and Exit To save changes and exit from Hotspot Designer back to the Visual Studio IDE. You will still need to save your project in Visual Studio for the changes to be permanently saved.

Exit without saving Exits the HotImage Designer and reverts back to the IDE and discards all changes made.

Edit

Undo. This will allow you to undo your collection of hotspot/s in sequence, from most recent to least recent.

Redo. This will allow you to redo or regain the last undone hotspot.

Cut. (Ctrl+X) Cut the highlighted Hotspot to the clipboard for pasting or deletion.

Copy. (Ctrl+C) Copy the highlighted Hotspot to the clipboard for pasting.

Paste. (Ctrl+V) Paste the hotspot from the clipboard to the image. When pasted, it will appear in the upper left hand corner of the image on the Hotspot Designer.

Delete. (Del) Deletes the highlighted Hotspot permanently.

Delete All Hotspots. Deletes all the Hotspots permanently.

Select All Hotspots. (Ctrl+A) Select all hotspots so that their properties can be modified collectivly. Note that only the properties which are changed will be copied across to all the hotspots.

Properties... Opens the properties dialog box where the properties of the highlighted hotspot can be set or edited.

Format

Bring to Front. Makes the selected hotspot the foremost hotspot and places it in front of all other hotspots that are occupying a whole or part of the same area of the image.

Send to Back. Makes the selected hotspot the backmost hotspot and places it behind all other hotspots that are occupying a whole or part of the same area of the image.

Tools

Shapes

This will bring you to the following submenus which allow you to create your hotspots:

  • Rectangle. (Ctrl+R). Automatically converts the cursor into a drawing tool with which enable you to draw rectangular hotspots. To draw a rectangle, select the rectangle tool then hold the left mouse button down while dragging the cursor on the image to the desired size. When you release the mouse button the rectangle will be completed. To resize it, press and hold the left mouse button over a drag handle and then drag it to the new size. When you release the mouse button the new size will be achieved.

  • Ellipse. (Ctrl+E). Enables the drawing of circular or elliptical hotspots. To draw an ellipse, select the ellipse tool then hold the left mouse button down while dragging the cursor on the image to the desired size. When you release the mouse button the ellipse will be completed. To resize it, press and hold the left mouse button over a drag handle and then drag it to the new size. When you release the mouse button the new size will be achieved.

  • Polygon. (Ctrl+P). Enables the drawing of hotspots which have an irregular outline and which need to be constructed in multiple segments. To draw a polygon, select the polygon tool and then left click on the image at the point where you would like to start drawing the shape. Next click along multiple points to create a shape. Once the shape is complete, left double click to finish the polygon. Note that the more points created the better the resolution will be and the easier it will be to modify the shape once completed. To modify the polygon, press and hold the left mouse button down over a drag handle and drag it to the new position and release the button once it is repositioned.

Resize All Hotspots. Allows you to resize hotspots if you have resized the image. Resizes by a percentage.

Import Hotspots from File... Allows you to browse your files and import hotspots that you have previously exported to an xml file.

Export Hotspots to File... Allows you to save your hotspots to an xml file.

Zoom

This allows you to zoom in or out of the image, by a percentage, from 50 to 400%. This feature is useful for obtaining higher accuracy when designing hotspots.

Help

Contents Starts the Help beginning with the Contents menu.
